Lessons Learned from 40 Years of Emergency Medicine and Transport Practice

Dr. Daniel Hankins has practiced emergency medicine for 40 years, as well as air and ground transport medicine since 1981. For the last 23 years of his career, he was a Consultant and Associate Professor in Emergency and Transport Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. He is a past-president of the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) and a founding member of the Air Medical Physicians Association.
Experiences of the presenter with multiple, enigmatic cases over the past 4 decades can be educational for transport personnel in order to avoid untoward outcomes in their practice. Uncommon and confusing presentations of multiple potentially lethal conditions will be considered and discussed to illustrate some common pitfalls and potential transport disasters that need to be avoided.
