Offshore Medical Rescue - practical considerations and techniques for medical rescue in the marine environment

John Hall has been a Paramedic with SA Ambulance Service for 20 years, including 10 years as a ICP Rescue Paramedic with the Special Operations Team. For the last 7 years John has also worked as a Retrieval Paramedic with SAAS MedSTAR. John is also a volunteer fire / rescue officer, and enjoys water skiing.


Dave Tingey has held various clinical and operational roles with SA Ambulance Service for 25 years . He now works full time as a Critical Care Paramedic Practitioner with SAAS / MedSTAR, In his spare time Dave enjoys kayaking and spending time with his family.

Aeromedical and helicopter rescue crews may be called upon to provide rescue or retrieval services to victims aboard marine vessels. This presentation will discuss considerations for aeromedical crews responsible for these operations, including selection and training considerations for medical and rescue crew; aircraft, equipment and personal preparation; and coordination, planning and response to incidents ranging from small recreational watercraft to large cargo vessels and cruise ships.
