Abstract:
This presentation examines the issues involved in the approval and certification of designs for complex patient cases that fall outside the established aircraft design standards.
Neonatal, Paediatric and Bariatric patient transfer cases together with the complexity of equipment required for airborne delivery of intensive care challenge the current regulatory system.
The following is reviewed in an attempt to address the challenges:
– patient group biometrics and crash survivability factors
– cabin safety assessments considerations
– a transition from prescriptive to performance based regulatory design standards
– the requirement for an aeromedical specific design standard and related guidance material
