Abstract:

In 2023, Emergency Breathing Systems (EBS) were introduced to the SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) MedSTAR helicopter Switlik life vests.  All staff received training on the new equipment. High levels of anxiety and uncertainty were reported by some staff.

To address these concerns, and support the staff, SAAS MedSTAR introduced a voluntary EBS Familiarisation Programme.

This presentation discusses the current requirements for EBS training in South Australia, the impact of EBS training on our service, the feedback from the EBS training and the familiarisation course and suggestions and ideas for the future.
