Abstract:
To date Northern Rescue Helicopter Limited is the only organisation in Aotearoa / New Zealand to be accredited by the Conjoint Committee of Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (CCPHRM) as a site that provides training for the Associateship in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (A.PHRM). Earlier this year we applied for re-accreditation and received an inspection from members of the sub committee of the CCPHRM. There are both benefits and challenges to hosting this training program and this presentation will explore the highs and lows of applying for and maintaining accreditation as a site.
This presentation will outline the requirements of an individual undertaking the associateship and an organisation gaining and maintaining accreditation. We will explore the benefits for the organisation as a whole including developing and nurturing a culture of learning, increasing shifts where clinicians are in charge but directly supervised and introducing Workplace Based Assessments (WBAs) to both Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine doctors and Critical Care Paramedics.
This presentation will explore potential barriers to other aeromedical organisations hosting the A.PHRM. The presentation will also outline the steps an organisation might wish to take to develop an application to run this program. Finally the presentation will illustrate and highlight the views of trainees who have completed the training program.
