Dr Joseph Lelo is the medical director at AMREF Flying Doctors. He is a practising anaesthesiologist, intensivist, and experienced flight physician involved in the execution and supervision of complex and demanding aeromedical transfers globally. He leads a team of thirty doctors and nurses engaged in providing air ambulance services, conducting life support training, and administering medical third-party services. Additionally, he serves as an aviation medical examiner with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and holds certification in pre-hospital care. He is also an advanced life support instructor with the American Heart Association. Dr Lelo has diverse interests in aviation medicine, healthcare economics, and the application of AI in healthcare.
He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi’s medical school. Dr Lelo holds a Master of Medicine degree in Anaesthesiology and an MBA from the University of East London.
Dr Lelo is passionate about integrating his diverse expertise to improve patient outcomes in both aviation and general healthcare settings. He actively engages in research that explores innovative solutions to enhance medical practices and promote efficiency in healthcare delivery.
