Abstract:

The delivery of aeromedical services is inherently complex and requires a seamless integration of the unique aviation and medical environments. Quality patient care and aviation safety are equally important and each require adherence to numerous regulations, standards and procedures.

This delicate balancing act requires ongoing input from subject matter experts in numerous disciplines. Our project to accommodate a Stryker Power Pro XT stretcher into a Pilatus PC-12 required the design of a stretcher loader as well as suitable restraint methods to allow for high patient weight. The project epitomised the challenges faced in ensuring all perspectives were considered and where compromises were made, they did not impact crew or patient safety.

This presentation will touch on the project management, challenges faced, and lessons learned. It will reference the numerous stakeholders engaged, communications utilised, approach to education of staff, change management challenges, and the always important pressures associated with cost and scope.
