Abstract:
How does todays Ambulance Service; select, train, assess and maintain the best individuals to form one half of a medical team?
What makes selection one of the most important decisions when building on an enduring legacy of pioneers, and who gets the final say?
This double act includes a relatively new member to the Aeromedical Division of NSW Ambulance. Jacob is an already accomplished clinician and clearly had a path planned out to achieve his position that he now holds as a Critical Care Helicopter Paramedic. In a relatively short period of time in Aeromed, Jacob has demonstrated the attributes that make the transition from Intensive Care Paramedic to Critical Care Paramedic possible, but moreover, how has he managed to stand out in a field of high achievers? What was his journey like to become a CCP?
Jacob will dip into the Coffee and Cases project he is partnering in, that seeks to capture the daily clinical review that happens within Aeromedical and is followed by bases across the state. Why is it so special? Where did it originate? And, can it be transplanted???
The other half of this team is Sam, a CCP for over 10 years, he is now one of the Education Team that select, train and assess for the coveted positions in a division that rarely sees staff turnover. An individual that has driven for progress and quality improvement in a safety sensitive and meaningful way, Sam will lift the lid on the evolution that has already happened in recruitment, and on where this is likely to go in the future.
